Officials identify Garner woman murdered, man found with her in attempted suicide on US-70 near Garner

— A Garner woman was killed in a murder and attempted suicide that happened on US-70 at the intersection near Raynor Road in Garner on Saturday.

Wake County officials identified the victim as Jasmine Nicole Upsher, 23, from Green Level. The alleged shooter is 28-year-old Terrance Laquan Scott of Clayton.

Witnesses heard gunshots come from a maroon SUV at around 4 p.m., according to Wake County Sheriff public information officer Eric Curry.

Upsher was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound. Officials say she was either pushed or jumped out of the vehicle.

The vehicle continued and witnesses said they heard more gunshots before the vehicle lost control in the median.

Scott was found by deputies in the vehicle with a gunshot wound, which investigators believe was self-inflicted.

He told investigators he shot the woman.

Investigators are still looking into the relationship between the two subjects and motive for the shooting.

Scott is at WakeMed with critical injuries.

The area of US-70 was closed in both directions at Auburn Knightdale Road. Traffic was backed up for at least a couple of miles, the NC Department of Transportation reports, and was being diverted from the scene.
