Normal People star Daisy Edgar-Jones enjoys a casual stroll with her Game of Thrones actor boyfriend Tom Varey

Her on-screen romance has captured – and broken – the hearts of the nation.

But Normal People‘s Daisy Edgar-Jones‘ off-screen love life doesn‘t seem to be quite as complicated.

The 21-year-old, who stars as Marianne in the hit drama, was spotted taking a stroll during the lockdown with her actor boyfriend Tom Varey, 29, who appeared as Cley Cerwyn in .

And proving that they definitely are just normal people, the couple – who live together in north London – stopped at the shops where they stocked up on beer and groceries.

Daisy, who also starred in Cold Feet, looked casual in jeans, trainers and an oversized jacket.

The actress plays the enigmatic Marianne in the gritty story of two teenagers who embark on an on-off love affair in the adaptation of the Sally Rooney novel.

She stars opposite rising star Paul Mescal, 24, who plays the anxious and sensitive Connell.

The adaptation of Normal People, directed by Lenny Abrahamson, has received rave reviews with many praising its ‘realistic‘ and ‘consensual‘ sex scenes.

In the first sex scene between Marianne and Connell, actor Paul was unable to get Daisy‘s bra over her head, something which made the final cut.

Daisy told the : ‘I think that‘s my favourite scene in the whole series. I was really surprised by how beautifully it was shot and how unfreaky it was to watch. I was halfway through watching it back before I realised I wasn‘t wearing a top.‘

The two stars only had a week of rehearsals before their first racy scene with Connell actor Paul admitting they ‘just had to get used to it‘. They worked with Netflix‘s Sex Education intimacy director Ita O‘Brien.

Daisy also told the publication that both her parents and Paul‘s have watched the series, which includes their at times graphic sex scenes.

Although the actress admitted that her boyfriend had to ‘grit his teeth‘ and she is worried about her grandparents watching it.

Daisy said she had to show her boyfriend Tom previews: ‘He was gritting his teeth but at least he‘s seen it now. It‘s my grandparents I‘m most worried about!‘

It comes after Paul revealed what it was like to film full-frontal sex scenes with his co-star Daisy for their new drama Normal People.

The Irish actor, 24, said they felt ‘empowered‘ by the ‘honest and truthful‘ sex scenes.

The Three drama features realistic sex scenes between main characters Connell and Marianne, who viewers first meet as teenagers in County Sligo, Ireland.

Paul explained to that the two actors were assisted by  intimacy coordinator Ita O‘Brien, so they felt comfortable with the nudity required.

He said: ‘[There was a] sense of security and safety that the nudity required on the show wasn‘t going to be used perversely or feel pornographic.‘

Discussing his relationship with the show‘s directors, he said: ‘It was always Lenny‘s intention for it to be honest and truthful. When you trust people of Lenny and Hettie‘s calibre, you trust what they want to do with the film.

Paul continued by admitting they felt comfortable discussing the way directions made them feel, which he confessed can be hard for young actors who are ‘eager to please‘ to do.

He added: ‘We felt incredibly empowered throughout to discuss things that might make us feel uncomfortable if we were to see it back on screens.‘

viewers have gone wild for the new Irish drama after all 12-episodes were released to iPlayer on Sunday.

Fans have already binge-watched the programme and fell in love with the two leads — Paul and Cold Feet‘s Daisy, 21,  who play the star-crossed lovers.
