Man, 22, arrested on suspicion of murder after male dies from serious injuries in Ellesmere Port

Man, 22, is arrested on suspicion of murder after male victim dies having been found with serious injuries in a house in Ellesmere Port

A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a male victim was found inside a property with serious injuries and later died.

Officers from Cheshire Police were called to an address in Blakemere Court, in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, at 3.15am on Saturday after concerns were raised for the welfare of a person there.

A force spokesman said once inside, police discovered the injured man and despite first aid from officers and paramedics, he died at the scene.

A post-mortem confirmed the victim, who has not yet been formally identified, died of multiple injuries.

A 22-year-old man from Ellesmere Port was arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday and remains in custody, the spokesman said.

Detective Inspector Kate Tomlinson said: ‘I would like to reassure the local community we are doing everything we can to establish exactly what has happened and, at this stage, it appears to be an isolated incident.

‘A team of detectives – assisted by local neighbourhood officers and search trained officers – are currently carrying out a number of enquiries in and around the area. These include house-to-house enquiries, forensic enquiries and CCTV enquiries.

‘We have already spoken to a number of people as our investigation continues but I would ask anyone who has not yet spoken to an officer or come forward with information to get in touch.

‘I‘m particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the area in the early hours of Saturday 2 May and may have seen or heard something suspicious – even the smallest piece of information can be useful in piecing together a case.‘

Chief Inspector Gary Smith, from Ellesmere Port Local Policing Unit, said: ‘I want to reassure all those living locally that officers will remain in the area over the coming days as part of the ongoing investigation and to provide reassurance and if you have any issues or concerns please speak to an officer.‘
